One Year

One year ago today a terrible disaster stuck the nation of Japan.

A magnitude 9.0 earthquake occurred approximately 70 KM east of the Oshika Peninsula of Tohoku. The earthquake also triggered a massive tsunami that reached up to 40 meters high. The tsunami caused a great deal of damage, especially to the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant. Of the four nuclear reactors, three suffered core meltdowns and were torn open, releasing vast amounts of radiation.

However, despite all the devastation, the Japanese have remained strong. They have shown us the true meaning of courage and perseverance in this time of adversity. Out of the wreckage came stories of both young and old coming together to work past their difficulties. Something we can all learn from.

Although we may not all be able to physically lend a hand, the least we can do is lend our love and support to those who need it. On this day we remember the disaster that befell Japan. Our hearts, our thoughts and prayers go out to the victims of the earthquake.

Everyone please take some time out today to remember the lives that were lost in this tragedy, and send a positive thought to a country that is still in the process of recovery.
